Welcome to The Wisconsin Scale Boating Association website. The WSBA is a club dedicated to fostering interest in the hobby of building static and radio controlled scale ships and boats. Our membership is open to anyone interested in the model shipbuilding hobby. We are centered in the Metro Milwaukee area but we cover most of southern Wisconsin and have members residing in Illinois, and Georgia.

The WSBA is about promoting and enjoying the model shipbuilding hobby. If you are in need of help getting started you can contact a club in your area or contact us. Check our links page for a list of scale boat clubs and resources. We receive many requests for assistance and we do our best to help. Membership in the WSBA is not necessary for us to give assistance. We have members who are very knowledgeable and are glad to share that knowledge. You will find a e-mail address at the bottom of this page. When you e-mail us make sure to mention model boating in the subject line so we can sort you out from the spam.

We hope the site is user friendly and you find things of interest. There are page link buttons at the top and bottom of each page.

Our next meeting will be Thursday May 8th at Greenfield News & Hobby.

The meeting begins at 7pm in the classroom. All are welcome. A complete list of meeting dates is available on the Information Page.

Types of Tugboats

On the RC Groups Boats Dock Talk forum a question was raised about the definition of a tractor tug vs. a rotor tug vs. a regular harbor tug. I'm ( the website administrator)  also a member of the Tugboat Enthusiasts Society. I passed along the question to Hugh Ware who is a writer on tugboat technology and TES President / TugBitts editor. He is currently writing a article for Pacific Maritime on developments in tugboat technology. He was kind enough to provide his expertise to address the above question. The information provided was a bit large for a single post on the forum so I am putting a link here for the file.

Modeling supplies for the troops

Our military personnel overseas do a great job serving our nation. They do their duty with dedication and selflessness. Being far from home, often in isolated and/or war torn areas they have little to occupy their free time and take their minds off of the tragedy and danger they must face daily. Some bases have formed model clubs to give soldiers a place to enjoy a hobby and have a little normalcy. These clubs can really use kits and supplies. On the Fine Scale Modeler magazine website is information on donating plastic model kits and supplies to our service people overseas. It appeared in the October 2005 issue.  If you would like to send a package visit http://www.finescale.com/fsm/objects/pdf/fsm-nn1005.pdf for important information. Some paints and adhesives cannot be sent through the mail due to their hazardous nature.
